Dell PowerEdge R430 Server - System Overview

Description:

Dell's PowerEdge R430 server features the latest technology to increase performance while reducing power usage and operational costs. This high-density, two-socket rack server is virtualization-ready and suitable for a variety of common compute tasks including surveillance, site security, web serving, or as a solid base for a PowerEdge deployment.

Performance:

Either one or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3, or E5-2600 v4 processors can be installed. Embedded PCIe lanes offer improved I/O and DDR4 memory modules deliver impressive performance. A dual SD card module provides Failsafe Hypervisor support and offers full redundancy on many virtualized tasks and workloads.

Memory:

In a two processor configuration the server will support a maximum of twelve DIMM modules and a maximum capacity of 384GB using 32GB registered DIMM modules (RDIMMs). A single processor will support up to 256GB of memory using eight DIMM slots, while the second processor controls the remaining four memory slots. This enables SMBs to get the most out of the system with a single processor configuration and minimal expenditure. DDR4 memory also offers 15% greater bandwidth and uses 30% less power than the previous generation DDR3 memory modules.

Storage:

To ensure maximum flexibility and optimize performance for a variety of uses, the system is compatible with both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SAS, SATA, and Nearline SAS SSDs and HDDs. Four chassis options offer flexibility and include:

  • 10 x 2.5-inch hot-plug drives
  • 8 x 2.5-inch hot-plug drives
  • 4 x 3.5-inch hot-plug drive
  • 4 x 3.5-inch cabled drives

Expansion:

In addition to DDR4 DIMMs and multiple storage options, two PCIe 3.0 slots support additional external devices. This system is virtualization ready with a built-in PERC S130 controller supporting basic RAID configurations. Optional PERC controllers are supported and can provide the full range of RAID options. The Gen3 PCIe slots on this system deliver twice the throughput compared to Gen2 PCIe slots.

Management:

iDRAC8 (integrated Dell Remote Access Controller) with LifeCycle Controller provides easy to use automation tools for health status, configuration, and system updates. As with all Gen 13 PowerEdge servers, iDRAC8 is standard equipment and provides administrators with on-site, on-cloud, and remote access. Dell's OpenManage software, another component of Dell's management engine, delivers even more tools to make management simple, painless, and accessible.

Summary:

Overall the Dell R430 server is among the best-of-the-best when it comes to utilization of compute power and reduced power consumption. Virtualization-ready, this 1U server is small yet powerful and delivers impressive numbers when used for high-performance computing tasks. Multiple chassis configurations, PCIe 3.0 slots, and DDR4 memory offer performance options to administrators and the ability to adapt as your business grows.
