Dell PowerEdge R630 Server - System Overview


With its 1U form factor, the Dell PowerEdge R630 server allows you to affordably consolidate your datacenter operations. "Best-in-class" new technology on the Dell R630 platform gives you more value for your dollar and it still offers more than twice the performance of the previous generation R620. This system supports one or two Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors with up to 18 cores and 36 threads each, or Intel's E5-2600 v4 processors featuring up to 22 cores and 44 threads.


With a two processor configuration, the system will support up to 1.5TB of RAM using 64GB DDR4 LRDIMM modules in all 24 DIMM slots. Registered DIMM modules are also supported but will only provide a quarter of the memory capacity when compared to LRDIMM modules. Depending on your choice of CPU and memory modules, expect transfer speeds of 1866 MT/s, 2133 MT/s, or a maximum of 2400 MT/s. Of course, transfer speed is dependent on stated processor speed, memory module speed, and memory module configuration, defaulting to the slowest performer.


"Ultra-dense," is one way to describe the storage available on this system, which translates into greater network and computing power for your data center deployment. Installing one of the optional PERC controllers, like the H730, significantly reduces storage latency and provides a full range of RAID options. With 1.8-inch SATA SSD's in all of the 24 drive bays, this system will support up to 23TB of storage with lightning fast processing and unbridled access to volumes of data. There's also support for up to four Express Flash NVME PCIe SSDs. Flexibility is a key concept in the design of this server, which means you have the ability to customize your storage needs with configuration options of 14TB, 18TB or 23TB using SAS or SATA SSDs or HDDs, or Express Flash NVMe PCIe drives.


There are three PCIe slots to support additional expansion cards including, embedded NIC's featuring up to 10GbE, and optional HD/RAID controllers for increased throughput and resilience. Installing one of Dell's 12GBe PowerEdge HD/RAID controllers adds 15% more bandwidth at twice the throughput speed. Using Dell's Express Flash PCIe SSDs storage devices can also significantly reduce latency.


Managing Dell's PowerEdge servers has never been easier with feature rich management tools like agent-free management and monitoring via iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller. iDRAC8 with Lifecycle Controller simplifies deployment and automation of tasks by discovering and auto-configuring bare-metal servers. In addition, automated server updates synchronize your system with the latest firmware. An optional Quick Sync Bezel features Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and provides server status using a smart phone or tablet also equipped with NFC technology. Dell's Tech Support Report continually creates status and health reports for 5,000 key parameters making server error resolution a breeze. OpenManage along with iDRAC8 and an Enterprise license provides secure remote systems management.
